Newbie.

So this is blogging? I've got to be honest, I'm having some serious Xanga flashbacks! Oh, the days of ranting about boy problems and not so subtly bashing your friends on the world wide web...ahh Junior High, I do not miss you at all.

Years have passed since I deleted my Xanga, and I never really imagined I'd start my own blog...as if I don't already spend enough time on the computer. Blogging always seemed more like something my husband would enjoy. He's a better writer than I am, and does some awesome movie reviews on his blog Friday Night Films (filmfanatics-wes22.blogspot.com)...yes, that was a shameless plug...no, he did not ask me to do that. I guess the biggest thing holding me back from blog world was that I didn't really have anything to write about...until now.

Pretty much anybody who knows me has heard that Wes and I recently moved to a new apartment. For the past 9 months we were living in an on campus apartment called Denman. Wow, do we have some stories from that place. It was a roof over our head and I'm very thankful for it, we even managed to make it as cute as we could...but I think it's safe to say we're both glad to be on to the next party.

We now have a one bedroom in a nicer part of town...and it's convenient to pretty much everything we love in Birmingham. The walls are currently plane and white, but they won't stay that way for long. I've got some great ideas for this little place floating around in my head...I've just got to work on making them a reality. I've been doing my research, and with a little creativity I think I'm going to be able to make our home fit for Southern living...even if I am a poor married college student.

So, what's my plan for this blog?
Virtually take you on my craigslist binges and Hobby Lobby hunts. I'll keep you updated on my progress, and hopefully even give you some ideas for your own nest. Who knows, I might even provide some step-by-steps (which will mostly be plagiarized from
other people's blogs...I'm not THAT creative...but I'll try to always give credit where credit is due). I guess most of all this is just a place for me to keep my ideas and projects organized.

Here's what I have done so far:
Kitchen table: With some help from my mom and my mother-in-law, I went on my first flea market hunt and found a wonderful glass top kitchen table. At the time, the chairs had some pretty heinous seat covers (I'm kicking myself for not taking a "before" photo), BUT I happen to know an awesome upholsterer...my granddaddy-in-law. I picked out some updated fabric, let him work his magic, and viola! A perfectly shabby chic kitchen table:

I bought a cute wooden dresser for a TV stand from an awesome blogspot called Vintage Pure and Lovely. I've got to say, that blog has inspired me a lot! You should check it out! The furniture they refinish is ADORABLE.

I've become a craigslist junky, and this week I made my first ever craigslist purchase: 2 end tables. They were both in pretty rough condition, but I'm working some magic, and they're already looking awesome! I'll post a blog with step by step pictures once I'm finished with them!

I'm working on some art for the blank wall I'm sure you noticed behind the kitchen table. It's going to be awesome...more to come on that one, too. Oh, and the wall to the left will eventually have a china cabinet or buffet...just as soon as I find the perfect piece to refinish.

I'm having some trouble deciding what to do on the top of my kitchen cabinets...suggestions would be great!

Wow, this has been a long first blog. I wonder if anyone will actually read the whole thing...I'll leave you (whoever you are) with some pictures of some shabby chic spaces I'm really inspired by:

Oh, and one last thing, then I promise I'm finished...meet Jeep, our newest addition...isn't he the cutest?

Adieu!
